       I am delighted, my dear Treitschke, to have your assurance that you will use your influence on my behalf.  I appreciate your meeting my wishes all the more as I cannot altogether boast of the impartiality of the theater –

       I send you herewith the book which you may peruse in the meantime [Anderson footnote: “This was a French melodrama ‘Les Ruines de Babylon’ “].  But I beg you not to let anyone else see or read it – It is impossible for me to go to you this morning.  But I shall certainly be with you about three o’clock this afternoon –
